Lamin house is a typical traditional house of Dayak people from East Kalimatan. Lamin is a word from the Dayak language that means ‘long’ in one Lamin house, there sre usually 5 to 10 families. They live together.

A lamin house consist of several parts. The main part is the centre of the house. It is called Lamin Adet. Here the Kepala Suku or the chief of the group lives. The front part, called serambi, is for social activities. Meeting and social gatherings are held here. The left and the right parts are called Lamin Sakai. Common people in the group live in these parts. Lamin Sakai is a very long building. It streches around 50 to 100 metres.

The Baduy Community is a unique society. The people live in Banten. It can be reached via a 10 km village road from cibungur village in Leuwidamar district. It is a steep road. In April and May,: the Baduy community is closed to outsiders. During this time it holds a ceremony called Seba. It is the offering of part of their agricultural product to the Head of the District. Sub Regent and the chief Resident. In Seba ceremony the “puun of Baduy” sends out a group of representatives of Baduy Dalam as well as Baduy Luar to act as the community’s spokesmen. When conducting this, the Baduy Dalam members refuse to ride any vehicle. They traveled any where on foot. They do this to prove their strength. To enter this very a special Baduy area, one hould obtain a written permission from the rangkasbitung district office. He has to state the purpose of the visit, it may take one whole week to process.

What we call “Wayang” is puppet made of leather of wood, representing a character in the Mahabrata of Ramayana stories. However, the can also mean yhe play itselt. Plays using the flat leather puppets called “ wayang Kulit” are popular only in central java and east java. Meanwhile, the plays using three dimensional wooden puppets or “Wayang Golek” are characteristic of west java.

The leather puppets are made to perform against a screen this wgite cloth serves as the shadows a screen . the on-lookers who watch the performance from the other side of the clith can see only the sadows or silhouettes of the figures. In fact, the term “wayang” literally means “shadow”.

Traditionally and even nowadays a”wayang” performance lasts the whole nignts, from about nine in the evening until dawn. A single puppeteer called the “ dalang” who serves as the operator, narrator and performer altogether performs it. Literally,” dalang” mean “mastermind”, that is one who arranges and directs an operation from “behind the screen”
